Atari 2600 connected to broken DVD recorder using a Coaxial (F-Type) to Female RCA Adapter.Ģ. Here's what I did in case it might help others or in case I forget and need the info later:ġ. The broken DVD recorder has S-Video output, so I plugged that into the little RF Modulator which has S-Video input, then ran the coaxial cable from the RF Modulator to the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-85 and now I'm getting a stable picture! Installation notes for WinTV v8: WinTV v8 is primarily for the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-850, WinTV-HVR-950, Colossus (not Colossus 2), HD PVR model 1212, WinTV-HVR-1150, WinTV-HVR-1500 or WinTV-HVR-1600. If you have a WinTV v8 Activation Code, you can upgrade to WinTV v8.5 at no cost.

Installation CD Version 4.8A with WinTV version 6 WinTV-HVR-950Q driver update: 72drv27078 WinTV v7 version 1.1E and a couple of more for the 850. This is WinTV v8, which can be used if you have a WinTV v7 CD-ROM.
WINTV HVR 850 RTL2832U DRIVERS
I have tried the Windows Catalog, tons of Google searches and downloaded all the drivers I can find at the Hauppauge site including the 850 drivers. I have a broken DVD recorder and running it through there didn't fix anything, just like the VCRs and a little RF Modulator that kind of looks like this, but there's something I didn't try until now. Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 950Q Im getting desperate. Looks like I won't need to buy anything extra. You may need a TBC to stabilize the signal between the console and the capture device. There are a lot of tuners out there that.
Note, though, that this tuner cannot be switched on-the-fly between modes - you must choose which you want (analog cable, or clear-QAM) during TV Setup. It cannot tune Clear-QAM (unencrypted digital cable.) Sorry. I'd imagine NES and Atari 2600 are similar. The HVR-850 is an analog cable / ATSC tuner.
